Publication Charges

Applied Physics Express is a fully open access journal. All articles published in APEX from January 2024 will be immediately free to read anywhere in the world.

The costs of publication are fully funded by a single open access article publication charge (OA APC).

Paying for open access

Various discounts, waivers and funding arrangements are available to support our authors. Visit our paying for open access page to find out whether you qualify. The following discounts are specific to APEX:

• Members of the Japanese Society of Applied Physics (JSAP) are eligible for a 20% discount (applicable only once per article)

Payment process

Upon publication, authors will receive an emailed invoice from IOP Publishing for the Publication Charge and/or Open Access APC. Payment of the charge is expected within 30 days of the invoice being issued.

Payment may be made by:

• Credit Card.
  The easiest and fastest way to pay is to use our online payment system which can be to pay by Visa or Mastercard.
  To access the online system for payment or any invoice amendments, you will need your invoice number and access key. You can find the access key on the bottom of your invoice.
• Bank transfer.
  If you need to pay by bank transfer, the appropriate account details are given on the invoice. It is important that you quote the invoice number as a reference when making your payment.
  For payees in Japan, you will need to enter the invoice number before the senders name. If you are unable to add the invoice number as a reference, please email details of your remittance to jsapfinance@ioppublishing.org including the invoice number, date of payment, and the amount of money transferred.

Requesting amendments to the invoice

You can use our online payment system to change the payee details or to inform us that the Publication Charge and Open Access APC will be paid by different parties. In both situations, we will issue a new invoice(s). The date for the new invoice(s) will be be the date that the change is requested.
