About the journal

Scope

JSTAT is targeted to a broad community interested in different aspects of statistical physics, which are roughly defined by the fields represented in the conferences called 'Statistical Physics'. Submissions from experimentalists working on all the topics which have some 'connection to statistical physics are also strongly encouraged.

The journal covers different topics which correspond to the following keyword sections.

  1. Quantum statistical physics, condensed matter, integrable systems
Scientific Directors: Eduardo Fradkin and Giuseppe Mussardo
  2. Classical statistical mechanics, equilibrium and non-equilibrium
Scientific Directors: David Mukamel, Matteo Marsili and Giuseppe Mussardo
  3. Disordered systems, classical and quantum
Scientific Directors: Eduardo Fradkin and Riccardo Zecchina
  4. Interdisciplinary statistical mechanics
Scientific Directors: Matteo Marsili and Riccardo Zecchina
  5. Biological modelling and information
Scientific Directors: Matteo Marsili, William Bialek and Riccardo Zecchina
The journal's scope should not be regarded as fixed and will evolve and adapt over time to the changes in research trends.

Editorial policy

JSTAT publishes original research and contributions should be substantial and significant in content. Papers must address one or more of the subject areas of JSTAT. The criteria for acceptance are scientific quality, originality, relevance and comprehension. Length should be appropriate to the information presented.

Editors are asked to apply a strict quality filter in selecting articles for publication. Articles submitted to JSTAT must not have been published in other peer reviewed journals, or be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Editors and reviewers operate anonymously, but they can reveal their identity to the author if they so wish. In the event of major disagreement between an Editor and an author, the Scientific Directorate may be consulted in order to resolve the dispute. The Editorial Board reviews JSTAT's scientific policy and ensures the scientific quality of accepted papers. Editors are in charge of assigning reviewers to each submitted paper and for making the final publication decision. There are many Editors in order to provide comprehensive coverage across JSTAT's topic areas.

Ethics

Journal of Statistical Mechanics maintains the highest standards of publication and research ethics. Authors are expected to comply with IOP Publishing's Ethical Policy.

Research data

This journal has adopted IOP Publishing's standard data policy. Please check that your article complies with the policy before submission.

Questions about the policy should be sent to jstat-eo@jstat.sissa.it

Many research funders now require authors to make all data related to their research available in an online repository. Please refer to the policy for further information about research data, data repositories and data citation.

Open access

Journal of Statistical Mechanics is a hybrid open access journal. Authors have the option to pay an article publication charge (APC) to publish their article on a gold open access basis under a Creative Commons Attribution Publication charges page.

Alternatively authors who do not select the gold open access option can choose a green open access route to publication. For more information on IOP Publishing's open access policies please see our Open access page. For our author rights policies please see our Author rights page.
