Abstract

Perhaps the most spectacular moment of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta was when the Ukrainian gymnast, Lilia Podkapayeva, performed a half twist at the end of a double forward somersault as part of a complex floor routine. Podkapayeva was awarded 9.887 marks out of 10 for the routine and went on to win the overall gold medal at the games.
