How to access IOPscience

All of the journal content hosted by IOP Publishing can be accessed through IOPscience. Abstracts and tables of content are freely available to all, while access to the full-text content will depend on your subscription status.

Subscribing institutions automatically qualify for online access to the journals to which they subscribe, as long as we have received a completed registration form.

You can check which journals you can receive online by checking the journals subscriptions at your site page, or by contacting your librarian.

How do I register for online access?

If your library already subscribes to one or more of IOP Publishing's journals, your librarian just needs to complete a simple registration form. Your librarian can also contact our customer services team at customerservices@ioppublishing.org for a hard copy.

If your library has no existing subscriptions, please ask your librarian to contact our customer services team at customerservices@ioppublishing.org. We'll be happy to send out product samples, catalogues, or any other information. Further details are available online about the content included in IOPscience, as well as pricing and subscription packages.

What if I have a personal subscription?

All you need to do is login to gain access to the full text.

Which journals are available in IOPscience?

All journals hosted by IOP Publishing are available in IOPscience. Institutions automatically qualify for online access to the journals to which they subscribe. We just need a completed registration form to provide online access.

How many years of content can I access?

Institutional journal subscribers are able to access to the current volume, plus a 10-year back file where available.

Customers who wish to access all of our archive content, including full-text articles going back to 1874, can choose to subscribe to our IOPscience extra service.

Alternatively, the IOP Journal Archive offers access to a comprehensive digital collection of all the articles published by IOP that are more than 10 years old (1874-1999 in 2010). The archive allows researchers to access more than 150,000 articles by some of the best authors and in some of the most significant journals in the physical sciences.

Why can't I access the full text?

It’s most likely that your institution does not subscribe to the journal you are trying to access. Ask your librarian which IOP Publishing journals you are registered to receive online, or visit the journals subscriptions at your site page to find out which titles your institution subscribes to.

Another possible reason is that you are working from a site other than your subscribing institution. If you are working from a remote location and your institution can authenticate its users via Athens or Shibboleth, then you can login using your institutional ID and password to gain access to the journals to which your institution subscribes. Otherwise you will only be able to access articles to the abstract level, plus your user options.

Do I need a network license?

If you are currently networking or wish to network your electronic resources between different sites and libraries within your organization, then you may require a network license. Please contact customerservices@ioppublishing.org for more information.

What if one of our computers cannot access IOPscience?

If one of your computers cannot access the site, it could mean that your customer account is not up-to-date in our customer database. Check the computer's Internet Protocol (IP) address by accessing our check-up page and contact customerservices@ioppublishing.org with these details.
