Scope

Sensing the world using indirect computational approaches, computational imaging provides new platforms to reconstruct the target image with novel concepts of computational algorithms and imaging systems. With the rise of compressive sensing and machine learning, computational imaging has become a rapid developing field in recent years. It has great potential for a range of applications, including medical imaging, remote sensing, optical encryption, object recognition and classification.

This focus issue aims to provide a timely forum for highlighting the most recent progress in computational imaging, showcasing both fundamental research and applications, sharing advances in algorithms, imaging system design, and relevant optical applications. We welcome original research, topical reviews, and perspectives.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Single-pixel imaging
  • Quantum ghost imaging/computational ghost imaging
  • Digital holography
  • Computational imaging with artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Computational imaging through scattering media
  • Metasurface imaging
  • Non-line-of-sight imaging
  • Single-photon imaging
  • Computational medical imaging
  • Compressive imaging.

Submission process

We encourage submissions from all authors whose work fits with the scope of this focus collection. The collection will also feature invited contributions. All focus issue articles are subject to the same review process as regular articles. Authors are invited to contact one of the guest editors, or the journal team directly, to discuss the suitability of their work prior to submission.

Please submit your article via our online submission form. You should submit the appropriate article type for your submission then choose Focus Issue on Computational Imaging and Its Applications from the drop-down menu.

Deadline for submissions

The target deadline for submissions is 31st October 2024 though we can be flexible where necessary. We encourage early submission where possible, as articles will be published on acceptance without being delayed by other papers in the collection.

Publication charges

Journal of Optics is a hybrid open access journal. The standard article publication charges can be found here.

Various discounts, waivers and funding arrangements are available to support our authors; visit our paying for open access page to find out whether you qualify.
