Abstract

Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) can be one of the solutions to energy issues and climate change. In December 2014, Toyota started selling the FCV called "MIRAI" in Japan. The FC system is composed of Toyota-self-developed parts, like Fuel Cell (FC) stack which doesn't require any external humidifier. The FC stack can realize 15 year durability, which is 3 times longer compared to the conventional stack, by improving cell flow field structure and membrane electrode assembly. In production engineering, we adopted new manufacturing methods, such as intermittent coating of catalyst layer, one-by-one production and cell performance inspection using indirect cooling system.
