Abstract
For the millions of football fans unable to travel to Japan for next month's World Cup final, watching the match on a home-cinema system will be the next best thing. By combining a large-screen television with a surround-sound processor and half a dozen loudspeakers, viewers will be able to recreate the sights and, in particular, the sounds of the Yokohama stadium near Tokyo in the comfort of their own homes. Surround sound allows armchair spectators to hear the linesman's whistle off to the side, the players' shouts from all over the pitch and the roar of the crowd as it echoes around the stadium.
