Abstract
Laban plant (Vitex pinnata Linn) is one of the plants used as traditional medicine to prevent or treat a disease. Almost all parts of this plant can be used as medicine, such as the leaves, bark, roots and fruit. Acehnese people use this fruit to heal ulcers that are used by swallowing. However, until now there has been no study on the threshold for using laban fruit as traditional medicine. The use of inappropriate levels can cause a risk of health problems. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out an analysis to determine the safe limit of concentrations that can be consumed without causing side effects. Toxicity test was carried out in vivo using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method with Artemia salina Leach shrimp larvae as test animals. Result showed that the ethanolic extract of laban fruit was toxic with an LC50 value of 600,608 mg/L.
