Abstract
Phenomenological-geometric and algebraic-and microscopic approaches to the problem of octupole vibrations in nuclei are reviewed. In particular, the collective model of nuclear octupole motion, its structure and symmetries are recapitulated in detail. Theoretical descriptions are compared with experimental data. The author also tries to elucidate a peculiarity of the octupole degrees of freedom.
