Abstract
The issue of copyright, usually thought to be more the concern of novelists and playwrights, has assumed increasing importance in recent years in relation to scientific publications. One particular example of this is the ever-widening practice of photocopying and the fear of the effect this has on the economics of scientific publishing and hence on the communication of scientific information generally.
