Abstract
Norio Kato's contributions to the dynamical theory of diffraction are briefly reviewed along with some brief bibliographical notes. A few points are developed with more detail such as the diffraction of electrons by polyhedral crystals, the propagation of wavefields in crystals, the dynamical diffraction of spherical waves and the diffraction of x-rays by deformed crystals.
