The low-temperature heat capacities of the two ternary intermetallic compounds GdNiGa and GdNiIn, which order ferromagnetically at 30.5 and 93.5 K respectively, were measured as a function of the magnetic field up to 9 tesla. From the experimental data the isothermal magnetic entropy change ( Smagn) and the adiabatic temperature raise ( Tad) were obtained at 5 and 9 T. The refrigerant capacity, calculated at 5 T, is 530 J kg-1 for GdNiGa, while for GdNiIn a lower value of 290 J kg-1 was obtained.
