Abstract

X-ray absorption near-edge study has revealed that Eu in EuRh₃B₂ is in a pure trivalent state while it exhibits a mixed-valence behaviour in EuFe₄Al₈. The average valency of Eu in EuFe₄Al₈ is found to be 2.9+or-0.05 at 300K.
