Abstract
Data on the methods of synthesis, structure and properties of polycyclic aromatic aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids and their derivatives containing free or substituted hydroxy or oxo group in the peri-position to the carbonyl group are generalized. The attention is focused on the intramolecular interactions between these peri-substituents and heterocyclizations involving them in comparison with heterocyclizations of similar ortho-substituted carbonyl compounds.
