IOPscience is an online service providing journal content published by IOP Publishing. IOPscience embraces innovative technologies, making it easier for researchers to access scientific, technical and medical content.
IOPscience has been developed to meet the research needs of the scientific community, and to address the space and archiving concerns of librarians. The development program has included user research, surveys and extensive beta testing. Feedback from customers and trial users indicates that IOPscience is easy to use. Over the last two years, the service has been used extensively by hundreds of institutions subscribing to the IOPscience extra service.

IOPscience is the website platform where you can access content published by IOP Publishing. In March 2010, customers were migrated from the Electronic Journals website platform to IOPscience and this is now the only platform available to customers.
IOPscience extra is an electronic only package, available though the IOPscience platform. Here you can access more than 60 IOP Publishing hosted journals, as well as the IOP Journal Archive, which includes all articles published since 1874. To find out more about how to take out a license or for a price quotation, contact your Regional Representative or e-mail us at iopscience@iop.org.
IOPscience is the only electronic platform to provide access to IOP journals, delivering all subscription and license packages. Access is provided via IP address, Athens and Shibboleth (for some federations). Please contact our Customer Services team at custserv@iop.org for more information about accessing IOPscience or to find out how to register for electronic access.
You can visit iopscience.org to find out more about IOPscience and take an online tour. The online tour is available in 11 different languages and provides an introduction to the features and functionality of IOPscience.
If your subscription already includes print copies, these will be delivered to you in exactly the same way.
SFX and other link revolvers are supported in IOPscience, as is forward linking via Crossref and other services.
IOPscience extra is a licensed service from IOP Publishing which provides access to all* IOP-hosted journal content. To purchase a license to use IOPscience extra or for further information, including free trials, please contact your Regional Representative.
* The following journals are not available in IOPscience extra: The Astronomical Journal, The Astrophysical Journal and The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series.
Usage statistics are available for both IOPscience and Electronic Journals. You can access these in the same way as you have done before, by accessing stats.iop.org/counter and logging in with your username and password sent to you by our Customer Services team.
To view your 2010 statistics from April onwards, you should choose the service ‘IOPscience’ from the drop-down menu.
To view your legacy statistics up until April 2010, you should choose the service ‘Electronic Journals’ from the drop-down menu.
Please note that as customers were migrated to the IOPscience platform throughout March 2010, we recommend that you gather your statistics for March 2010 from both Electronic Journals and IOPscience services from stats.iop.org/counter in order to have a complete view of your March 2010 usage.
