Abstract
It was with great shock that we learned of the sudden death of our colleague and friend, Steve Ralph, shortly after the ARENA conference in 2006. Steve joined the ACORNE collaboration in August 2005 bringing with him a wealth of experience in areas including designing and building instrumentation systems, electronics and data acquisition. Steve attacked all new challenges with good humour; he was actively contributing to the development of an acoustic calibrator, a key goal of the ACORNE project, at the time of his death. These proceedings are dedicated to him in his memory.
