Preface

The first International Seminar on Applied Mathematics and Mathematics Education (ISAMME) 2019 held by Mathematics Education Study Program of Institut Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (IKIP) Siliwangi, Indonesia. This seminar has objectives to expand mathematics contribution to the society, to improve mathematics teaching, and to solve mathematics problems.

Indonesian education system demands changes due to the dynamic challenges in human resources as the effect of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Graduates are expected to be more competitive. As a result, the curriculum set into contemporary literacies: Data Literacy comprises the ability to read and analyze, Technology Literacy comprises the ability to apply technology, and Human Literacy aims at creating humanists who can communicate well. This recent education system requires professionals who create innovation based on research information. This notion calls for new perspective converting challenges into opportunities. In view of that, the Mathematics Education Study Program of IKIP Siliwangi invites researchers, practitioners, educators to participate in and contribute to the seminar under the theme "Issues and Challenges in Mathematics Education".

The keynote presentations are provided especially to show the contribution of mathematics educators in the world of mathematics education towards research and knowledge sharing. We have five keynote speakers coming from Utrecht University, Netherland., Dr. M.L.A.M. (Maarten) Dolk, IPGK Pendidikan Teknik Malaysia, Dr. Tan Tong Hock, Kyambogo University, Uganda., Dr. Wamaungo Juma Abdu, University Sriwijaya, Indonesia., Prof. Dr. Zulkardi, and from IKIP Siliwangi, Dr. Heris Hendriana. We also have two keynote speakers in workshop session coming from Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Dr. Rully Charitas Indra Prahmana, and IKIP Siliwangi, Dr. Wahyu Hidayat.

On this seminar implementation, from two hundred and thirty four abstract registers, there are a hundred and twenty eight presenters declared to be qualified. I trust that all the particcipants found their involvement in the seminar both valuable and rewarding. Our wish is that all participants would enjoy this seminar, improve the knowledge and experiences.
