Students' understanding of tides

In this paper we report the findings of our research into students' understanding of tides. Students from secondary school, pre-service primary school teacher trainees and subject teacher trainees were chosen as subjects and their understanding was assessed by a questionnaire. On the basis of this study we were able to establish the main categories involved in an understanding of the phenomena concerned with tides.
