Abstract
The magnetic field configuration of a helical axis stellarator, having the advantage of both magnetic well and field-line shear, can be realized by means of a simple coil system of the torsatron type, even without the help of special toroidal field coils. Such a system of the torsatron type, the 'Vintotron', may provide experimental information relevant to nuclear fusion which is complementary to the information obtained by another type of helical axis stellarator, the Heliac.
