We investigate the evolution of a central spin coupled to a spin bath without internal dynamics. We compare the case where a single bath couples to one component of the spin with that of two competing baths coupling symmetrically to orthogonal spin components. It is found that the central spin dynamics is enhanced in the latter case, which may be interpreted as a frustration of dissipation. The quantum purity of the spin decays in both cases, exponentially for a single bath and algebraically for a double bath. We conclude that the symmetric double coupling frustrates dissipation and slows down decoherence.
