On the material equilibrium of nanoparticles

A I Rusanov

Show affiliations

Gibbs' condition of material equilibrium for a dissolving particle is generalized in three aspects: mobile components are included, the general case of an anisotropic surrounding medium is considered, and the dependence of the thermodynamic surface tension on the particle size is taken into account. The latter dependence is directly calculated for the case of dispersion forces to show the significance of the corrections introduced for nanoparticles whose size is comparable with molecular dimensions.
