Show affiliationsWe have measured the neutron capture cross section of 76Ge by means of the activation technique. Neutrons were produced via the 7Li(p, n)7Be reaction, which offered the possibility of simulating a quasi-stellar neutron spectrum for kT = 25 keV, thus allowing us to measure the Maxwellian averaged cross section directly. The stellar cross section extrapolated to kT = 30 keV was found to be 12.4 ± 0.7 mbarn. This result carries a considerably smaller uncertainty than previous data.
