We have measured the neutron capture cross section of 76Ge by means of the activation technique. Neutrons were produced via the 7Li(p, n)7Be reaction, which offered the possibility of simulating a quasi-stellar neutron spectrum for kT = 25 keV, thus allowing us to measure the Maxwellian averaged cross section directly. The stellar cross section extrapolated to kT = 30 keV was found to be 12.4 ± 0.7 mbarn. This result carries a considerably smaller uncertainty than previous data.
