We have studied p-shell nuclei using a two-frequency shell-model approach with an effective interaction derived from the Bonn-A nucleon-nucleon potential by means of a G-matrix folded-diagram method. Shell-model wavefunctions of two different oscillator constants, hbarωin and hbarωout, are employed, one for the inner 0s core orbit and the other for the outer valence orbits, respectively. The binding energies, energy spectra and electromagnetic properties are calculated and compared with experiment. A quite satisfactory agreement with the experimental data is obtained, which is in some cases even better than that produced by large-basis shell-model calculations.
