Unification of gauge coupling constants in the minimal supersymmetric model with alphasapprox0.11

We have studied the gauge unification with the recent electroweak data as a function of the higgsino mass. It is shown that if the strong coupling constant is small approx0.11, a consistent picture of gauge unification is not possible in the minimal supersymmetric standard model.
