Zn0.4Mn0.6Se thin films were grown on GaAs(100) substrates by HWE. The evolution of the crystal structure from the β-phase to the α-phase is characterized by x-ray diffraction patterns. The variation of the lattice constants for both the α-phase and the β-phase in the films is also investigated. The surface morphology is gradually roughened as the phase is changed. In the photoluminescence spectrum intra-Mn2+ transitions are observed and found to be substrate temperature dependent.
