Show affiliationsWe study electron-electron correlation effects in double ionization of He and Ne by 3.6 MeV/amu Au53+ impact by analysing the correlation function for back-to-back emission of electrons with equal energy. For this particular emission pattern we find the correlation function to be sensitive to the target while without selection of this pattern no significant dependence on the initial state is observed. Therefore, this method may open the possibility to sensitively map correlated many-electron bound states.
