We have tested the Wannier threshold law employing a new experimental approach using an electron time-of-flight spectrometer. From the measured relative intensities of the helium He+(n
) photoelectron satellites (n
9) near the double-photoionization threshold, we derived the Wannier exponent
for the double-photoionization cross section
2+
E
(with E as the excess energy). Reasonable agreement with previous experiments and theoretical predictions has been found.
