LETTER TO THE EDITOR

We have tested the Wannier threshold law employing a new experimental approach using an electron time-of-flight spectrometer. From the measured relative intensities of the helium He+(nell) photoelectron satellites (nleq9) near the double-photoionization threshold, we derived the Wannier exponent alpha for the double-photoionization cross section sigma2+propto Ealpha (with E as the excess energy). Reasonable agreement with previous experiments and theoretical predictions has been found.
