Various dielectric functions of high-Tc cuprates, (La,Sr)2CuO4 and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+ delta , and their related compounds were obtained by two kinds of measurements-optical reflectivity and electron-energy-loss spectroscopy. Comparative study of the obtained spectra has revealed that the excitations associated with CuO2 plane in high-Tc cuprates are concentrated in lower-energy region and are well isolated from the excitations in the insulating blocks.
