The Shakespear hot-wire micrometer

E B Moss

Show affiliations

The micrometer is a Wheatstone bridge system in which the arms are spirals of wire having a temperature coefficient. The temperature to which the arms are raised by a current through the bridge depends partly on the spacing of the turns, and this property enables it to be used as a measuring device. Commercial applications of the instrument are mentioned.
