The coefficients of thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity for a chromium-copper alloy (`Hidurel 6')

Measurements of the coefficients of thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity are reported for a chromium-copper alloy (`Hidurel 6') to 400°C. An absolute steady-state radial heat flow method was used for the thermal conductivity determinations and a relative resistance method for the electrical conductivity measurements.

The coefficient of thermal conductivity over the range 0-400°C could be correlated by k`H6' = (3.42 + 6t × 10-4) W cm-1 degC-1 where t is in °C. The temperature coefficient of resistance was 3.52 × 10-3 degC-1 and the coefficients of electrical resistivity, ρt (ohm cm, t in °C) for 20°C and 200°C are ρ20 = 1.987 × 10-6 ohm cm, and ρ200 = 3.258 × 10-6 ohm cm.

The validity of the thermal conductivity observations was shown by the very good agreement with the Smith-Palmer (1935) correlation.
