On space charge neutralization by positive ions in low-pressure thermionic converters

L Brandus and I Popescu

Show affiliations

The effect of a uniform distribution of ions on the space charge between the electrodes of a thermionic converter under collision-free conditions is evaluated. It is shown that the quantity γ = e(kT/m)1/2ni/j, where ni is the ion concentration and j is the electric current density, must exceed at least 0.1 for the space charge to be appreciably reduced.
