Show affiliationsA curved crystal spectrometer of transmission type with a radius of curvature of one metre has been constructed, utilizing the (310) planes of quartz. The effective part of the crystal plate has the dimensions 10 mm × 20 mm × 1 mm and subtends 0.00020 steradian at the focus. In order to ensure a high degree of stability the spectrometer is mounted on a strong U-beam. The spectrum is scanned by moving a slit in front of the radiative source along the Rowland circle, the direction of the diffracted beam being fixed in space. The γ-rays are detected by means of a NaI(Tl) scintillation crystal combined with a single channel pulse height discriminator. The wavelengths and energies of gamma rays from 198Au, 76As, 122Sb, 175Yb, 177Lu, 186Re, 188Re, 192Ir, and 194Ir, obtained by pile activation have been measured.
