Show affiliationsWe present a different approach to dealing with integral equations developed to tackle the scattering by obstacles of scalar harmonic waves. The consistency of this approach is made evident by proving that classical results are obtained for the scattering of harmonic plane and spherical waves on perfectly reflecting planes and cylinders. Then, this approach illustrated on the scattering of harmonic waves by obstacles with a surface impedance supplies a Fredholm-like equation whose solution is obtained by using the Rayleigh-Gans iterative process.
