Show affiliationsThe author reports a study of the infrared properties of the electron propagator in a framework which uses a gauge-invariant electromagnetic potential. The quantisation of the electromagnetic potential is performed in the Zwanziger formulation (1979) of quantum electrodynamics to avoid the usual infrared divergence. The Kallen-Lehmann representation of the infrared electron propagator in the photon vacuum is shown to be well defined and convergent in this framework. Furthermore, he shows that the probability density of an electron wavepacket propagating in the vacuum decreases like (time)-3, a well known property which is recovered here in quantum electrodynamics.
