Abstract

The mean-field theory of overcharging of a spherical polyanion, which is penetrable for several polycations, is developed. The effect of counterions is explicitly taken into account. It is shown that the overcharging is always driven by electrostatic interactions, whereas counterions can either promote or prohibit this effect.
