Purely gravito-magnetic vacuum spacetimes

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

It is shown that there are no vacuum spacetimes (with or without cosmological constant) for which the Weyl tensor is purely gravito-magnetic with respect to a normal and timelike congruence of observers.
