Integrability of the Rarita-Schwinger equation

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

We show that for stationary axially symmetric metrics the Rarita-Schwinger equation does not reduce to the standard linear system related to the Ernst equation. We interpret this fact as a negative test of the complete integrability of the Einstein equations.
