Show affiliationsA modification of the transition state theory for evaporation and condensation is presented by analysing the kinetic characteristics of liquid-vapour interphase transport. In the modified transition state theory, the moving orientation of molecules is introduced into the calculation of the free volume of the activated complex. The condensation coefficients of argon at different temperatures are calculated with the modified transition state theory. The results agree well with those from molecular dynamics simulations.
