Conversion of an ordinary EM beam into an extraordinary beam in a magnetoplasma

Presents an investigation of the partial conversion of an ordinary electromagnetic beam, with Gaussian intensity distribution along the wave front, into an extra-ordinary beam in a hot collisionless magnetoplasma. The nonuniform intensity distribution of the pump wave leads to its self-focusing and to the generation and focusing of the excited waves. It is seen that far from the upper-hybrid resonance, the ratio of the electrostatic to the electromagnetic part of the excited wave power, increases linearly with ( omega c/ omega 0). It is also seen that the excited wave power oscillates with the distance of propagation on account of self-focusing.
