Show affiliationsThe objectives of this study were to measure in vivo an instantaneous partition coefficient of xenon, and to estimate the effect of it on calculated flow values obtained from washout experiments. The results suggest that the calculated xenon clearance based on the static equilibrium partition coefficient is not exactly the actual flow, but rather a mathematical flow index, which is highly dependent on flow and diffusion rates.
