Improved biological response with low-level radiation exposure

ABSTRACT

Reviews observations already published which provide evidence of improved biological response caused by exposures to low-level radiation. Beneficial effects are grouped into two general categories, the first of which includes effects which are of direct benefit to individuals. The second includes effects which are of benefit to whole populations. The dangers of extrapolating the observations in these two groups to humans are discussed. The authors concluded that while it is prudent to assume that all radiation exposure involves potential risk the evidence suggesting beneficial effects should not be ignored.
