Abstract

A PDP-8 computer obtained primarily for radiation treatment planning of cancer patients and presently used as a hospital-based tumour registry system, is further developed as a teaching aid in medical instruction of radiologic technologists. The text of the radiologic physics course is stored on Dectape in the form of basic questions with an answer to be selected from the multiple choice provided. The control of this programmed text is via teletype and the display scope provides the review before an answer is selected. A student can advance this programmed text either in sequence or choose the questions to answer at random. At the end of the text a student may choose to file the selected answers on Dectape for later comparison with the master file containing the correct answers. Such a computerized approach has introduced an element of excitement in the learning of radiological physics by the technicians and they become familiar with operation of a digital computer in the early part of their training.
