Abstract

The Victoreen, Model-555 Radocon, integrating dose rate meter has found wide use in medical radiation dosimetry, particularly for the measurement of relative doses or dose rates in radiation therapy such as tissue-air ratios, percentage depth dose, etc. Since the output voltage of the unit exhibits excellent linearity with exposure, it is possible to measure relative exposures over a decade to an accuracy of +or-0.2% using a digital voltmeter (DVM). A plug-in DVM module, which can be used interchangeably with the 'timer-trip' plug-in module, and which requires negligible internal modification of the 555 was therefore constructed and is described.
