Show affiliationsA torque magnetometer is described which is designed to operate in the 25 mm diameter, variable temperature (4.2-400 K), sample tube of a superconducting solenoid able to provide a field of up to 13 T. The existing instrument is able to measure torques up to 0.3 N m with a resolution of 10-6 N m, and is controlled by a BBC microcomputer. Examples of torque curves measured on samples of sintered and powder Nd2Fe14B are given.
