LETTER TO THE EDITOR

An analytical expression for the luminous efficacy of a semiconductor lamp is derived by representing both the eye response curve and the spectral output of a lamp by gaussian functions and integrating the product. Numerical values are given for lamps whose outputs are centred between 545 and 730 nm.
