Show affiliationsMethodical aspects of studies of the time-dependent mechanical properties of materials by step-loading nanoindentation using a Berkovich indenter have been considered. The possibility is shown to determine the viscosity and relaxation time of viscoelastic materials from experiments on step-loading nanoindentation. The potentialities of step-loading nanoindentation have been demonstrated by the example of the photoplastic effect in chalcogenide glasses.
