Show affiliationsPhase-sensitive high-speed imaging of terahertz (THz) radiation was achieved by introducing the optical heterodyne detection method to high-speed electro-optic sampling of THz images. Intense THz pulses obtained from a large-aperture photoconductive antenna were used as the source. The electric field distribution on the focal plane of focused half-cycle THz pulses was observed using the apparatus. Annular spatial profiles were observed in the time-dependent images. The frequency-dependent distribution calculated by means of Fourier transformation showed almost diffraction-limited focusing.
