Show affiliationsThe crystal field parameters B20 and B22 of antiferromagnetic single crystals of rare earth intermetallic compounds (TbxY1-x)Cu2 (x=1,0.8,0.6,0.4,0.2,0.1,0.05) and Tb(CuxNi1-x)2 (x=1,0.95,0.9,0.8,0.7) were calculated from the least-squares fit to the reciprocal paramagnetic susceptibility along principal axes. The results of the calculation are in good agreement with the experimental values estimated from the anisotropic paramagnetic Curie temperatures on the basis of the molecular field approximation. In the paramagnetic state strong anisotropy in the susceptibilities along each axis appears, indicating significant crystalline electric field (CEF) effects.
