Show affiliationsTime-of-flight measurements using an electron beam were carried out for a new photoconducting polymer, poly(paracyclophane) (PDE), pure and doped with a low-molecular-weight acceptor. The experiments were carried out for very small total charge flowing through the sample, in current and also in charge mode, yielding similar results in both cases. The hole mobility in pure PDE is several times higher than the mobility measured for poly(N-vinyl carbazole) under the same conditions, presumably resulting from some delocalisation of charge carriers along stacks of cofacially aligned aromatic rings. Doping with tetracyanoethylene enhances the mobility still further.
